Underhill’s Sweep Leads Middlebury To Third Place At St. Lawrence Carnival

Moore tallied a pair of top-four finishes.
Middlebury alpine skier Bradshaw Underhill claimed both the giant slalom (GS) and slalom to lead the Panther ski teams to a third-place finish at the St. Lawrence Carnival. Dartmouth ran away with the crown for the second time in as many weeks with 931.5 points. The University of Vermont earned second with 798 points followed by Middlebury (767 points).
 
MEN'S NORDIC HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the 20K mass start on Friday, Logan Moore finished as the runner-up with a clocking of 46:55.00.
  • Jack Christner crossed the finish line in fifth place at 47:50.40, while Mason Wheeler was 14th (48:50.10). 
  • Moore and Christner finished within three seconds of each other in the individual, with Moore placing fourth (20:06.7) and Christner one spot behind (20:09.6). 
  • Wheeler grabbed 10th place with a clocking of 20:43.6.
WOMEN'S NORDIC HIGHLIGHTS
  • Pacing the Panthers in the mass start was Quincy Massey-Bierman with a 12th-place finish (55:07.50).
  • Sofia Scirica claimed 15th with a clocking of 55:46.60, while Mica Bodkins finished in 24th place with a time of 57:08.30.
  • Massey-Bierman stopped the clock in 23:42.5 in the 7.5K classic to place 17th.
  • Bodkins was two spots back with a time of 23:47.9, while Scirica rounded out the scorers with a 21st-place finish (23:51.7).
WOMEN'S ALPINE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Pacing the Panthers in the GS for the women was Mika-Anne Reha, finishing just off the podium by .40 seconds in fourth place (2:15.88).
  • Henriette Borgia combined for a clocking of 2:17.29 for 15th place, while Sara Paradis was the final scorer in 32nd (2:20.67).
  • Middlebury was led by Sophia Tozzi in the slalom with a sixth-place finish, completing her two trips down the mountain in 1:37.59.
  • Reha was right behind in seventh place, just .03 seconds off her teammate.
  • Borgia finished in 36th with a two-run time of 1:42.21. 
MEN'S ALPINE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Underhill claimed the GS on opening day by less than a tenth of a second, completing his two trips down the mountain in 2:09.89.
  • Also producing a strong showing in the event was Axel Bailey in ninth (2:11.47) and Dominic Shackleton in 15th place (2:12.41).
  • Underhill finished first in the slalom, edging out Catamount Mackenzie Wood by just .04 seconds (1:33.70) to complete his weekend sweep.
  • Joining his teammate on the podium was Nicholas Unkovskoy, who combined for a clocking of 1:34.17 to finish in third place.
  • Shackleton rounded out the scorers with a two-run time of 1:36.13 for 28th overall.  

NOTES
  • The Panthers dominated in the men's events this weekend, grabbing second in each of the four events.
Middlebury returns to Vermont for the Saint Michael's Carnival beginning on Friday, January 31.
