Middlebury Eases Past Bates 197-93

Pai Easterbrook swept the diving events for the Panthers.

The Middlebury women's swimming and diving team closed its NESCAC weekend road trip with a 197-93 triumph over Bates on Sunday. The Panthers tallied wins in 13 events and secured four podium sweeps.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Middlebury kicked off the meet with a triumph in the 200-yard medley relay. Maddy Reid, Emma Hall, Chloe Bautista and Anna McGrew led wire-to-wire, combining for a time of 1:48.86.
  • Chloe Katz continued her strong season, posting a 17:41.10 to earn the 1,650 freestyle title. She also took home the 500 free by over 11 seconds with a time of 5:11.57 and the 400 individual medley (IM), clocking a 4:43.45.
  • The Panthers kept the winning trend going, claiming the top-three spots in the 200 free. Hannah Baumgartner grabbed the top of the podium (1:58.76), followed by teammates Lauren Jolley (1:59.02) and Grace Nadecki (1:59.95).
  • McGrew earned her first individual victory in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall at 58.01. Reid (59.04) and Isabel Pentony (1:00.84) were right behind to claim second and third. 
  • Avery Maxwell grabbed gold in the 50 free with a time of 25.22.
  • McGrew and Maxwell teamed up for a 1-2 finish in the 100 free with three seconds separating the Panthers.
  • The final podium sweep of the meet came in the 200 back. Pentony finished first at 2:09.04, while Reid (2:11.96) and Sage Huddleston (2:13.21) earned second and third. 
  • Bautista took home the top spot in the 100 butterfly, posting a clocking of 59.23. 
  • Middlebury also excelled on the diving boards with Pai Easterbrook earning the 1-meter (182.18) and 3-meter (186.38) titles.
  • The Panthers closed the meet with a victory in the 200 free relay, as the quartet of McGrew, Maxwell, Jane Cary and Bautista combined for a 1:38.62.

NOTES

  • Katz tallied three victories in one meet for the first time this season.
  • The Panthers put together a team score of 190 or higher for the second time this season.

Middlebury is idle until it heads to Massachusetts to take on Williams and Hamilton in a tri-meet on Saturday, January 25 at 1:00 p.m.
