Jack Paul tallied a runner-up spot in the 200 butterfly.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team racked up numerous podium finishes in a 170-118 loss to Bates on Sunday. Alongside the strong podium performances, the Panthers also secured four event victories.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Pierce Bigelow swam a 1:45.00 to earn runner-up honors in the 200 freestyle. The podium was closed out by Rodin McKenna, who touched the wall in 1:49.34.
- The 200 backstroke saw two more Panthers finish in the top three. Samuel Hughes clocked a 51.85 while Jack Undercoffler (53.37) tallied third. The duo also went 2-3 in the 100 back.
- Jack Paul grabbed second overall in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:59.89.
- On the diving boards, Owen White claimed the 3-meter title with a final score of 246.15 points. He also took home the top spot in the 1-meter dive, tallying a score of 258.13 points.
- John Masiello picked up a victory in the 200 breaststroke, coming from behind during the final 50 yards to touch the wall in 2:11.07.
- The Panthers grabbed the top-two spots in the 500 free. Bigelow led wire-to-wire and touched the wall first with a clocking of 4:47.01. Stefanos Salas earned runner-up honors in 4:51.20.
- Garnering silver in the 100 fly was Andrew Dou with a time of 52.37.
- Prin Chantarangkul (100 free) and Luke McNamara (400 individual medley) picked up bronze in their respective events
- Middlebury closed the meet with a second-place effort in the 200 free relay with Jason Chiappinelli, Hughes, Chantarangkul and Dou combining for a 1:25.76.
NOTES
- White grabbed his fourth and fifth event victories of the season with his sweep of the diving events.
- Masiello earned his second victory of the campaign after securing the 50 breaststroke against Colby.
Middlebury returns to the pool for a tri-meet NESCAC battle against Williams and Hamilton in Massachusetts on Saturday, January 25 at 1:00 p.m.
