Box Score The #8 Middlebury women's tennis team recorded solid results while competing in the ITA Regional competition hosted by Bowdoin. Three Panthers advanced to the quarterfinals and one to the semifinals in the singles bracket, while two pairs earned their way into the semifinals of doubles.
SINGLES "A" HIGHLIGHTS
- Six Panthers competed during singles competition. Sahana Raman, the fifth seed in the bracket, was dominant throughout the tournament earning four consecutive straight-set victories, before falling in the semifinals by narrow set scores of 6-7(3), 6-4 and 6-3 to Wesleyan's Jackie Soloveychik.
- Also playing their way into the quarters were Nina Farhat and Elsie Van Wieren. Farhat cruised through her initial three matches without dropping a set before falling to Raman in the round of eight. Van Wieren dropped just one set over her first three matches before bowing out against second-seeded Olivia Soffer of Babson.
- Additional victories in the opening round were recorded by Elizabeth Doak (6-3, 6-2) and Claudia Miller (6-0, 6-1).
DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS
- Three Middlebury duos took to the courts in the bracket with two playing into the semifinals.
- The tandem of Raman and Farhat earned the #5 seed and received an opening-round bye. The pair tallied 8-1 and 8-6 triumphs in the round of 32 and 16, respectively. In the quarters, Raman and Farhat upset #4 seed Yuu Ishikawa and Margaux Molyneux of Williams 8-3 before falling 8-4 to eventual champion Renna Mohsen-Breen and Lane Durkin of Wesleyan 8-4.
- The pair of Miller and Van Wieren were given a bye into the round of 32 and cruised in their first match over a team from Colby. The duo defeated a Brandeis tandem and edged a pair from Amherst (8-7) to get to the last four before losing to Wesleyan's Natalia Leroy and Soloveychik.
- Recording a victory in the initial round was the Panther team of Ananya Annapantula and Gusty Beveridge by an 8-2 count.
The squad has a few weeks off from competition before hosting the Middlebury Panther Challenge from October 11-13 to wrap up the fall portion of their schedule.
