#5 Men’s Tennis Breezes Past Trinity 5-0 In NESCAC Quarterfinals

The #5/top-seeded Middlebury men's tennis team breezed past eighth-seeded Trinity 5-0 to open NESCAC Tournament play on Friday morning. With the victory, the Panthers extend their winning streak to eight in a row and advance to Saturday's semifinal round.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury claimed all three doubles contests to storm into a 3-0 lead. The duo of Hugh Hentschel and Thehan Wijemanne continued their strong play at #2, easing to an 8-2 win.  
  • Julian Wu and Aidan Harris pulled away for an 8-4 victory in the third slot, before the tandem of Neel Epstein and Robby Ward tallied the final four points of their match at #1 to win 8-4 and make it 3-0.
  • In singles play, Noah Laber gave the Panthers a 4-0 advantage, cruising past his opponent 6-0, 6-1 in just 53 minutes.
  • Epstein secured the victory with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at #4 to complete the 5-0 sweep.
NOTE
  • Prior to the clinching point, Wu (6-2, 4-0), Harris (6-1, 5-1), and Ward (6-4, 2-0) each led their respective matches. Noah Lewis was victorious 6-4 in the opening set and was knotted at 1-1 in the second set.
  • The doubles duo of Hentschel and Wijemanne have won six-straight contests this season. 
  • Epstein continues his sizzling spring, improving to 15-0 in singles action.
Middlebury takes on #6/fifth-seeded Bowdoin in quarterfinal action on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. with a trip to the championship on the line.
