Filias & Smith Earn USTFCCCA All-American Honors

Dave Filias and Caleb Smith of the Middlebury men's track and field team were both lauded with United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American accolades following their performances at the NCAA Championships last weekend. Filias was tabbed to the second team in the hammer throw, while Smith secured second team honors in the decathlon.
 
HONOREE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Filias (Second Team)
    • The All-American honor was the first of Filias' career.
    • At the NCAA Championship, Filias placed 13th in the hammer throw, launching the implement 57.41 meters.
    • The Panther had a banner year, winning the event five times and finishing as the runner up at the Open New England Championship. 
    • He was crowned the NESCAC and the Division III New England Champion, while also securing all-region laurels.
    • Earlier this spring, Filias set the school record in the hammer, with a toss of 61.22m at the NESCAC Championship.
  • Smith (Second Team)
    • In his initial season at Middlebury, Smith was lauded with All-American honors.
    • During the national championship, the rookie racked up 6,599 points in the decathlon to secure an 11th place finish. 
    • At the NCAA Championship, Smith finished in the top-10 in five events, including second in the discus (37.32m) and fifth in the javelin (52.51m), while setting numerous personal-bests.
    • The Panther was named to the all-region squad in the decathlon and was victorious in the event on two occasions this spring, including at the Division III New England Championship where he set a personal-best score of 6,633 points.
