The 11th-ranked Middlebury men's lacrosse team outscored #4 Dickinson 5-1 in Sunday's fourth quarter, propelling the Panthers to a 13-9 upset on Sunday in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. With the victory, head coach
Dave Campbell collected his 200th career win and Middlebury advances to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the second-straight year.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Red Devils scored first when Luke Whalen beat the possession clock expiring, sending a left-handed shot over the shoulder of Panther goalie Hayden Kern with 2:04 gone in the opening quarter.
- Middlebury tied the game at the 10:44 mark when John McCarthy drove to the middle and bounced a shot into the lower-left corner.Â
- The Panthers took a 2-1 edge just 16 seconds later on a tally from Will Spehr.
- Dickinson won the ensuing faceoff and Sascha Gannon fired a shot into the back of the net to even the contest at 2-2 with 9:55 remaining.
- The visitors regained the lead when Will Ford wrapped around the goal, firing the ball into the lower portion of the net, before Will Zink scored on a quick-stick shot 1:53 later for a 4-2 edge after one stanza.
- The Red Devils rattled off the next three goals over a span of 4:36 of the second quarter. Whalen fired a bouncing bid past a sprawling Kern 36 seconds into the stanza, Skyler Schluter tallied on a fastbreak chance, while Owen Porter made the score 5-4 with 10:48 remaining on a shot into the left panel.
- Zink tallied a marker from just outside the crease, while Billy Curtis scored from the left side 44 seconds later to give the Panthers a 6-5 lead at the break.
- Dickinson knotted the score 2:17 after halftime when James Isaacson ripped a left-handed attempt from 10 yards out for a 6-6 score.
- The sides traded two-goal spurts over the remainder of the quarter, as Henry Tarr danced through traffic and Drew Dummer scored in transition for the Panthers, while Charlie Baughan and Whalen answered for the hosts to deadlock the contest at 8-8.
- William Ryan tallied a player-up score on a quick-stick bid 1:30 into the fourth frame that started a three-goal spurt, before Zink completed his hat trick on a player-up goal 34 seconds later for a 10-8 advantage with 12:56 remaining. Zink found the back of the net less than three minutes later, scoring on an underhanded shot on a pass from behind the cage by Ford at 10:04.
- Whalen brought the Red Devils to within two (11-9) with 6:29 left on a turnaround attempt from five yards out to finish his hat trick.
- Middlebury added tallies from Jackson Hanson while a player up and Patrick Jamin over the final 5:18 to secure the thrilling 13-9 victory.
NOTES
- William Munroe was victorious in 14-of-25 faceoff chances and scooped up eight groundballs. He moves into fourth place in the program's record book in career faceoffs won (600) and rollers (307).
- Kern finished with seven saves in the win, giving him 228 this year. That total vaults him into fourth place in program history. The goalie also earned the 30th victory of his career, improving to 30-11 during his first two seasons.
- Campbell has amassed a record of 200-128 overall, including a 182-101 mark at Middlebury.
- Sunday's matchup was just the second between the programs in men's lacrosse. The Panthers won the other contest, a 16-11 decision during the 2019 Mustang Classic.
With the victory, the Panthers advance to face #14 Bowdoin in the NCAA Quarterfinals with a location and time to be determined.Â
