Men’s Track and Field Takes Part In Open New Englands & Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza

The Middlebury men's track and field team competed in a pair of invitationals this weekend. Four athletes traveled to the Open New England Championships, hosted by Holy Cross, while other members competed at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza hosted by Williams.
 
HIGHLIGHTS AT OPEN NEW ENGLANDS
  • Dave Filias continued his phenomenal outdoor season, finishing as the runner-up in the hammer throw with a toss of 60.54 meters. Filias' effort was second only to Liam McGovern of Division I University of New Hampshire. 
  • In the 400-meter hurdles, Xander Swann qualified for the finals with the fifth-quickest time, crossing the finish line in 54.08 seconds. In the championship heat, Swann bettered his time by 0.46 seconds to earn fourth place.
HIGHLIGHTS AT FARLEY INTER REGIONAL EXTRAVAGANZA
  • Aiden Tam claimed the bronze in the 110 hurdles, stopping the clock in 15.34. Caleb Smith finished sixth, crossing the finish line in 16.15. 
  • In the 100 dash, Marco Motroni finished fourth with a blistering clocking of 10.80, which was a personal best.
  • Two Panthers placed in the top-six spots in the 3,000 steeplechase. Ziggy Goddard finished fourth with a time of 9:16.29, while Will Lavey stopped the clock in 9:28.77 to earn sixth.
  • Smith also took fifth place in the long jump, hitting the sand at 6.57m.
  • Dan Urchuk earned fifth in the discus, launching the implement 43.37m. Benjamin Martin also secured a place in the top 10, taking home 10th with a toss of 40.00m.
  • In the triple jump, a pair of Panthers finished in the top 10. Sam Opawuyi led the way, placing seventh with a leap of 12.94m, while Tony Wang was one spot behind his teammate with a distance of 12.88m.
  • Parker Loupessis raced to a seventh-place showing in the 400 hurdles, stopping the clock in 56.06.
  • James Hetherington finished seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.23m, while Colin Breen crossed the finish line in eighth during the 400, recording a personal-best time of 49.22.
Middlebury concludes the regular season on Thursday when it heads to Massachusetts for the MIT Final Qualifier.
