Men’s Golf Finishes Fifth At NESCAC Championship

Henry Harrison fired a pair of 76s over the weekend.
The Middlebury men's golf team posted a two-day score of 601 (295-306) to finish in fifth place at the NESCAC Championship. The Panthers placed three players in the top-20 spots. Tufts won its first league title with a score of 587 strokes, Hamilton was second with a score of 593 and Trinity and Bates tied for third with each team recording 596 strokes.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Charlie Schulman finished in a tie for sixth place to garner All-NESCAC accolades. He fired an even-par 72 on Saturday and followed with a 75 during Sunday's round for a two-day score of 147. Schulman amassed seven birdies over the weekend, including four on Saturday.
  • Next for Middlebury was Brendan Maykel who fired a combined score of 151, including an opening round of 73, to finish in a tie for 16th place. He collected five total birdies during the competition.
  • One stroke back was Henry Harrison with a two-round effort of 152, recording a pair of identical 76s with three birdies over the weekend.
  • Finishing in a tie for 23rd was Colin McCaigue. He closed the championship with a 153 (74-79), highlighted by a two-over-par effort with four birdies on the opening day of the event. 
  • Rounding out the scorers, Bradshaw Underhill had a strong final day of action. The Panther bettered his day-one score by two strokes to finish just three shots behind McCaigue with a tally of 156 (79-77) to tie for 30th place.
NOTES
  • The Panthers amassed 22 total birdies over the two rounds of competition.
  • Jack Meehan of Tufts and Henry Ehrlich from Bates tied for medalist honors with matching scores of 143.
Middlebury will await its NCAA Tournament fate when the field is announced on Monday, May 6.
