Men’s Track & Field Hosts Middlebury Invitational On Senior Day

The Panther seniors were honored before the start of the meet.
The men's track and field team honored seniors James Hetherington, James Flaumenhaft, Ryan Devine, Ryan McNerney, Alec Gironda and Nadjingar Ngbokoli. Also recognized were Henry Ericson, Colin Breen, Peter Burke, Joel Kofman and Samuel Maxwell before its home meet on Saturday. The Panthers posted 13 event victories during the non-team scoring invitational.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Breen led the field to the line during the 400 meters (49.48), while Zach Utz posted a victorious clocking of 1:54.30 in the 800.
  • Gironda claimed the title in the 1,500 (4:01.38), while Aiden Tam earned a winning time of 15.07 in the 110m hurdles.
  • Also picking up event triumphs in the racing disciplines were Xander Swann during the 400 hurdles (54.59) and Ziggy Goddard during the 3000 steeplechase (9:35.77).
  • Middlebury posted seven wins in the field events from multiple different Panthers. Sam McGarrahan won the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.89m. 
  • Joel Kofman triumphed in the pole vault (4.40m), while Sam Opawuyi hit the sand during the triple jump with a winning distance of 13.79m.
  • Logan Cosgrove hurled the shot put to a victorious effort of 13.94m, Dan Urchuk won the discus at 44.11m, Hetherington was triumphant in the hammer throw at 51.94m and Caleb Smith won the javelin with a mark of 51.55m.
  • Parker Loupessis recorded a pair of second-place efforts during the hurdle events. He crossed the line as the runner-up with a clocking of 15.47 in the 110m and 56.65 during the 400m. 
  • Marco Motroni was second in the 100 (10.84), while Benjamin Hughes finished as the runner-up in the 800 (1:55.10).
  • Additional runner-up efforts were recorded by Smith in the high jump (1.84m), Ericson during the pole vault (4.25m), Tony Wang in the triple jump (13.63m), Maxwell in the discus (43.74m) and Urchuk during the hammer (49.79m).
  • The 4x100m relay team of Motroni, Tam, Swann and Richard Clark was second, crossing the finish line in 42.35.
  • Jed Nelson was second in the long jump with a leap of 6.56m.
 Middlebury returns to competition on Saturday when it competes in the NESCAC Championship hosted by Tufts.
