Nordic Squad Competes In Freestyle At NCAA Championships

Logan Moore climbs a hill on Thursday on his way to an 11th-place finish.
The Middlebury nordic ski team competed in the 7.5K freestyle events on day two of the NCAA Championships. Combined with Wednesday's alpine scores, the Panthers sit in 11th place with 62 points out of 23 teams. Utah leads the way with 312.5 points, while Colorado sits in second place with 256.5 points and Denver rounds out the top-three teams (251 points).
 
The nordic squad is idle on Friday, returning to the trails on Saturday for the 20K classic mass start. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Logan Moore was the first Panther out of the gates on Thursday morning, wearing bib #15. Finishing in 11th place out of 40 racers, Moore narrowly missed All-American accolades, covering the 7.5K freestyle course in 20:11.0. 
  • The second skier for Middlebury was Jack Christner, finishing in 40th place (22:42.5). 
  • On the women's side, Shea Brams led the way, placing 22nd among 40 athletes, clocking in at 23:57.8.
  • Maggie Wagner cracked the top 35, finishing 34th with a time of 24:59.5 in her NCAA debut.
NOTES
  • Moore, a three-time NCAA Qualifier, earned his best finish during his career in any discipline at the NCAA Championships. 
  • The men's team finished ninth overall in the event with 20 points.
  • Utah swept the day, winning the men's competition with 90 points and the women's crown scoring 68 points. 
The alpine team wraps up competition on Friday under the lights, with the first slalom run beginning at 6:40 p.m. Mountain Time.
