The third-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team triumphed 7-2 over Chapman and blanked Hope International 9-0 on Sunday, as the squad has now won all eight of its matches this spring.
HIGHLIGHTS VS. CHAPMAN
- In a battle between Panthers, Middlebury grabbed a 2-0 lead with wins at #2 and #3 doubles. Noah Laber and Aidan Harris earned an 8-1 win in the second slot, followed by a tiebreaker victory (8-7(3)) from duo Joe Mairs and Hugh Hentschel in the third spot.
- Chapman's Ian Jordan and Caleb Wilkins edged Neel Epstein and Robby Ward 8-6 at #1 to make it 2-1 heading into singles play.
- Middlebury rattled off four-consecutive straight-set victories at #3 (Harris), #4 (Epstein), #6 (Nathan Jackson) and #2 (Ward) to clinch the match and take a 6-1 advantage.
- Wilkins earned his second point of the day for Chapman with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the top slot, while Middlebury closed out the match with Hentschel winning the first set in tiebreaker fashion(7-6 (7), before a 6-2 win in the second for the 7-2 final score.
HIGHLIGHTS VS. HOPE
- In the second match of the day, the Panthers swept doubles action with different pairings than the morning contest. Hentschel and Thehan Wijemanne earned an 8-1 win at #2 to get things going, before Mairs and Julian Wu claimed an 8-2 victory in the top spot. Tandem Nikky Kondamuri and Jackson triumphed 8-4 in the third slot for the 3-0 lead.
- Five of the six singles competitions were won in straight sets by Middlebury. Kondamuri's match in the fourth slot was a thrilling event. The Panther won the first set by a 7-1 tiebreaker, but fell 7-5 in the second. The match came down to a 10-point superbreaker, with Kondamuri winning 10-5 to secure the shutout for Middlebury.

- Epstein, Hentschel, Jackson and Ward are all riding five-match winning streaks in singles play.
- Hentschel and Mairs have claimed five-consecutive triumphs in doubles action, while Harris and Laber are unbeaten (4-0).
- The 9-0 triumph over Hope was the fourth shutout of the season.
