Panthers Are Fifth After Day One Of Dartmouth Carnival

Nina Reichhelm led the Panthers with an eighth-place showing in today's giant slalom.
The Middlebury alpine and nordic ski teams finished the opening day of the Dartmouth Carnival in fifth place. The University of Vermont leads the way with 484 points, while the host Big Green sit in second place (366 points) and the University of New Hampshire rounds out the top three (315 points).
 
ALPINE HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the giant slalom (GS), Bradshaw Underhill was the Panthers' highest finisher, securing ninth with a combined time of 1:48.44.
  • Nicholas Unkovskoy finished just 0.17 seconds behind his teammate, placing 10th (1:48.61).
  • Rounding out the scorers was Axel Bailey, who raced down the mountain with a two-run time 1:49.33 to earn 16th place.
  • Nina Reichhelm concluded her two runs in a tie for eighth place, registering a total time of 1:52.92.
  • Just four spots behind her, Mika-Anne Reha finished 12th with a two-run clocking of 1:53.51, while Katie Fynn was Middlebury's third scorer (1:54.56).
NORDIC HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the freestyle sprint, Jack Christner placed second in both his heat (2:32.96) and the semifinal round (2:34.57) to reach the final. The junior crossed the finish line in fifth place with a time of 2:38.05.
  • Mason Wheeler was the Panthers next finisher, stopping the clock in 2:40.57, while Sam Murray rounded out the scorers (2:43.44).
  • On the women's side, Shea Brams led the way for Middlebury, finishing second in her qualifying heat with a time of 3:01.02. In the semifinals, Brams skied to a clocking of 3:02.94 to secure 10th place overall.
  • Maggie Wagner narrowly missed out on a spot in the semifinals, finishing 14th with a time of 2:59.21.
NOTES
  • The men's alpine team finished third overall in the GS event.
  • Reichhelm's eighth place showing was her best finish of the winter.
  • Brams has finished in the top-10 in every race this season, while Christner matched his highest finish of the season.
The Panthers will return to action on Saturday and conclude the Dartmouth Carnival.
