13th-Ranked Women’s Squash Edges #17 Amherst 5-4

Mariana Reedich clinched the match with her win at #8.
The 13th-ranked Middlebury women's squash team edged 17th-ranked Amherst 5-4 on Sunday, utilizing wins in the bottom-five spots of the ladder. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers tallied the first point with a sweep by Maya Bardorf at #7 (11-3, 11-6, 11-7).
  • Eva Finney increased the Middlebury advantage with a four-game victory in the sixth spot (11-9, 6-11, 11-5, 12-10).
  • The Mammoths moved to within 2-1 behind a four-game triumph in the third slot.
  • Madeline Schwarz pushed the Middlebury advantage to 3-1 behind a five-game win at the bottom of the ladder (6-11, 11-5, 11-5, 8-11, 11-2). 
  • Amherst pulled to within one (3-2) with a victory in the second spot.
  • Margaux Comai battled back from a 2-1 deficit in the middle of the ladder, earning a five-game triumph (11-6, 8-11, 10-12, 11-5, 11-3).
  • Mariana Reedich clinched the match, edging her opponent at #8 in four games (11-9, 11-8, 2-11, 11-5).
  • Amherst closed the scoring with a four-game win in the top slot and a sweep at #4 but it was not enough as Middlebury hung on for the final 5-4 score.
NOTES
  • Finney's triumph was the 25th of her career.
  • The wins by Reedich and M. Schwarz were their team-best 13th victories this season (13-1).
  • Clementine Campbell picked up a 3-0 triumph in the exhibition match (11-2, 11-4, 11-8).
The Panthers conclude the regular season on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. with a match at ninth-ranked Dartmouth.
