Men’s Swimming and Diving Hosts Middlebury Invitational

Rodin McKenna claimed the top spot in the 50 backstroke.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team hosted Clarkson, St. Lawrence and #8 Williams in the Middlebury Invitational this weekend. The meet featured four squads but did not have team scoring.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers placed first in both relay events on Friday. The quartet of Jason Chiappinelli, Matthew Hensel, Christopher Pedersen and Samuel Hughes earned the victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:24.45, bettering the second-place team by over two seconds. Jack Undercofler, Paul Shen, Andrew Dou and Hughes secured the top spot in the 400 medley relay, cruising to a triumph by nearly five seconds (3:26.17).
  • In the 50 backstroke, Middlebury claimed the top-four spots. Rodin McKenna won the event with a clocking of 25.11, while Tom Morgan (25.37), Ivars Emerson (25.52) and Terry Luongo (25.55) rounded out the top four.
  • Luke McNamara finished first in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 1:54.33 and was the runner-up in the 200 Individual Medley (IM), touching the wall in 1:55.16.
  • Prin Chantarangkul was second finish in the 100 free with a time of 47.13, while Hughes claimed a runner-up spot in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 51.88.
  • Hensel placed second in the 50 free, clocking in at 21.58, while Pedersen was third in 50 breaststroke with a time of 27.10.
  • Off the diving board, Owen White placed second in the one-meter event with a score of 403.00 points, while Liam Smith was third with a score of 400.75 points. Smith took second place in the three-meter event (434.80 points), with White finishing third (402.65 points).
  • In the 100 butterfly, John Masiello touched the wall third with a time of 53.17. 
  • Will Sonne finished second in the 200 free (1:46.52) and James Thomas scored a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (58.90).
  • The quartet of Undercofler, Shen, Dou and Hughes secured a victory in 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.29.
  • The Panthers closed the invitational with a victory in the 400 free relay. Chiappinelli, Pedersen, Dou and Hughes earned the top spot with a time of 3:08.56. 
 Middlebury returns to action when it travels to Colby for the NESCAC Championships from February 22-25.
