2024 Middlebury Men's Tennis Preview

The Panthers celebrate their NCAA Quarterfinal win in 2023.

The #2 Middlebury men’s tennis team begins its spring season on Saturday, March 3 against #20 Brandeis. Last year, the team claimed its 11th NESCAC Championship and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.

Captain Noah Laber finished the 2023 season ranked fourth nationally in singles and #10 in doubles. The Panther earned All-NESCAC First Team and ITA All-American honors. Aidan Harris returns for his final season with Middlebury, garnering All-NESCAC First Team and ITA All-American honors last spring for his performance in doubles with Laber. 

Robby Ward finished the 2022-23 campaign with a remarkable 23-5 record in singles play. He won all four of his matches during the NCAA Quarterfinal and Semifinal rounds. Ward and Neel Epstein amassed a winning record (20-13) in doubles, primarily playing in the second spot. Epstein, a junior captain, tallied the clinching point during the NCAA Quarterfinal match against Bowdoin last season.

Julian Wu concluded a stellar rookie campaign with an impressive 25-4 record in singles play, including a 20-match winning streak to start his career. Wu carried his momentum into the fall, winning the ITA Regional Tournament, and advancing to the semifinals of the ITA Cup.

Hugh Hentschel and partner Thehan Wijemanne claimed the ITA Regional Tournament,  qualifyingn the pairfor the ITA Cup. The duo ended this past fall with a 7-2 doubles record.

Head Coach Andrew Thomson ’10 is in his fourth year at the helm of the program and is assisted again by Tristan Kaye who continues his second season.
