Men’s Swimming & Diving Sits Seventh Following Day Three of NESCAC Championships

Will Sonne placed 16th in the 1,000 free.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team moved up one place and sits in seventh place following the third day of the NESCAC Championships with 590.5 points. Continuing to pace the field is #11 Williams with 1,431.5 points, while #4 Tufts is second (1,276 points) and #17 Amherst is third (781 points).
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Off the diving board, Liam Smith placed fourth in the three-meter event, registering a score of 379.35 points. Ran Brown was one spot behind him, scoring 376.75 points, while Owen White finished seventh (360.40 points).
  • Luke McNamara continued his strong performance at the NESCAC Championships, finishing seventh in the 400-yard individual medley (IM) with a time of 4:01.97.
  • In the 100 backstroke, Samuel Hughes won the consolation final with a time of 49.90. Jack Undercofler was two spots behind, stopping the clock in 50.23. 
  • A pair of Panthers reached the consolation final in the 100 breaststroke. Paul Shen touched the wall in 55.70 to earn 10th place, while John Masiello finished in 14th (56.61).
  • Rodin McKenna swam to an 11th-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:39.07. Pierce Bigelow finished two spots behind his teammate, touching the wall in 9:43.00, while Will Sonne was 16th (9:43.80).
  • In the 200 medley relay, Middlebury's team of Undercofler, Shen, Andrew Dou and Hughes placed eighth with a clocking of 1:32.07, narrowly missing out on a school record.
NOTES
  • Williams' Oliver Schalet set a NESCAC record in the 400 IM, stopping the clock in 3:51.87, while Eph Carter Anderson secured a NESCAC-best time of 9:11.35 in the 1,000 free.
  • The Williams 200 medley relay team also set a NESCAC record, completing the race in 1:26.85.
  • Ev Nichol of Williams (100 back), Alexander Grand'Pierre of Bowdoin (100 breaststroke) each set pool records during today's action.
The Panthers return to Colby's Aquatics Center for the final day of action on Sunday with preliminaries starting at 10:00 a.m. and finals taking place at 5:30 p.m.
