Men’s Swimming and Diving Competes At Second Day of NESCAC Championships

Jack Undercofler finished 15th in the 50 backstroke and competed in the 400 medley relay.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team competed during the second day of competition at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Colby. Leading the way is #11 Williams with 811 points, while fourth-ranked Tufts is second (688 points) and Bates sits in third (452 points). The Panthers are eighth with 307.5 points.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • A trio of divers scored for Middlebury in the one-meter event. Ran Brown led the way, finishing fourth with a score of 398.80 points. Liam Smith was one spot back, placing fifth (394.45 points). Owen White rounded out the scorers, finishing eighth with a score of 336.20 points.
  • In the 500 freestyle, Rodin McKenna placed third in the consolation final, stopping the clock in 4:36.94, while Pierce Bigelow swam to 16th with a clocking of 4:43.71.
  • Paul Shen finished 14th in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 25.78.
  • Jack Undercofler earned a 15th-place finish in the 50 backstroke, touching the wall in 23.87.
  • In the 200 individual medley (IM), Luke McNamara was 11th (1:51.79), while Samuel Hughes secured 13th place with a time of 1:52.31. 
  • The quartet of Undercofler, Shen, Andrew Dou and Hughes raced to a seventh-place showing, stopping the clock in 3:21.67. The quartet missed a school record by just over a second.
NOTES
  • Multiple Panthers outpaced their top times from this season in today's events. 
  • During Friday's action, the Ephs 200 free and 400 medley relay teams, Alexander Grand'Pierre of Bowdoin (50 breaststroke) and Oliver Schalet of Williams (200 IM) each set NESCAC records.
  • Connecticut College's Justin Finkel (500 free), Ev Nichol of Williams (50 back) and Bates' Maximilian Cory (50 free) each set meet and pool records, while Neil Mortimer of Colby set a pool record in the 50 fly.
Middlebury returns to the pool on Saturday for the third day of the NESCAC Championships. Preliminaries will commence at 10:00 a.m. followed by diving at 2:00 p.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m.
