Trio of Top Five Finishes Lead #19 Middlebury On Third Day of NESCAC Championship

Fayanne Smith-Salzberg placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke.
Chloe Katz, Maddy Reid and Louise Hay each secured top-five finishes in their respective events to lead #19 Middlebury on the third day of the NESCAC Championship. Fourth-ranked Williams sits atop the leaderboard with 1,479 points, while #9 Tufts is second (1,244 points) and the Panthers round out the top-three (744 points).
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Katz highlighted the third day of competition, swimming to third place in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:09.42 to earn All-NESCAC honors.
  • Middlebury's next highest finisher was Reid in the 100 backstroke. The junior raced to a fourth-place finish with a time of 57:21.
  • In the 200 free, Hay earned fifth place, touching the wall in a blistering time of 1:53.75. Hannah Baumgartner was the runner-up in the consolation final (1:54.79), while Grace Nadecki (1:55.77) finished 12th.
  • Fayanne Smith-Salzberg continued her strong NESCAC Championship, placing eighth with a clocking of 1:05.01 in the 100 breaststroke. Emma Hall finished second in the consolation final and 10th overall with a time of 1:05.20.
  • In the 200 medley relay, the team of Reid, Smith-Salzberg, Isabella Caddeau and Chloe Bautista placed seventh, combining for a time of  1:45.46.
  • Miranda Moser secured 13th place in the 400 individual medley (IM) with a 4:37.24 clocking, while Bautista finished 15th overall in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57:63.
NOTES
  • In total, 22 Panthers recorded top times during today's events.
  • The Williams 200 medley relay squad broke the NESCAC and pool record this evening with a time of 1:40.79, while Eph Lily Todd claimed the pool record in the 1,000 free (9:58.69).
Middlebury will wrap up the NESCAC Championship tomorrow with preliminaries beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by finals at 5:30 p.m.
