#18 Men’s Squash Downed By #14 Colby 6-3 In Hoehn Cup Consolation Semifinal

Gabe Thin played in the seventh slot during tonight's Hoehn Cup consolation semifinal.
The 18th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team was downed by NESCAC foe #14 Colby 6-3 in the consolation semifinal of the Collegiate Squash Association (CSA) Hoehn Cup on Saturday night.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Mules opened the match with a victory at #2 to take a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Panthers answered with a sweep in the sixth slot. PK Keller eased past his opponent 11-7, 11-7, 11-6 to knot the match at one apiece, before Colby responded with a hard-fought triumph at #9 to take a 2-1 edge.
  • Middlebury evened the contest (2-2) when Caleb Boateng cruised to a sweep (11-8, 11-7, 11-8) in the third slot.
  • Colby stormed into a 4-2 lead with a victory at #7 and a back-and-forth, four-game win in the fifth spot that lasted one hour and nine minutes. 
  • The Mules clinched the match by registering a sweep at #1 to move into a 5-2 advantage.
  • In the eighth slot, David Zhao claimed the first two games by identical 11-7 score lines before dropping the third game 11-6. The Panther responded by securing an 11-8 win to make it 5-3.
  • Colby closed the match with a four-game triumph at #4 to earn the 6-3 victory.
NOTES
  • Keller and Zhao each recorded their 12th wins of the season to tie the duo for the team lead.
  • The two programs squared off for the 19th time, with Middlebury holding a 15-4 advantage in the all-time series.
The Mules advance to the championship of the consolation bracket, while the Panthers wait to hear about the CSA Individual Tournament.
