#19 Panthers Sit Third After Day Two Of NESCAC Championships

Louise Hay swam a leg on two relays during Friday's action.
The 19th-ranked Middlebury women's swimming and diving team sits third after the first full day of the NESCAC Championships, accumulating 431 points. #4 Williams leads the way with 821 points, while ninth-ranked Tufts is second at 705 points.  
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Chloe Katz finished sixth in the championship final of the 500-yard freestyle and secured an NCAA 'B' cut clocking a time of 4:56.97. 
  • In the 400 medley relay, the quartet of Maddy Reid, Emma Hall, Elise Scott and Louise Hay claimed sixth place with a 'B' cut time of 3:50.60
  • Isabella Caddeau placed eighth in the 50 backstroke, touching the wall in 26.98.  Reid was the runner-up in the consolation final, finishing 10th overall in 26:52.
  • Caddeau was also Middlebury's best finisher in the 50 butterfly, earning 12th place with a clocking of 25:98. 
  • In the consolation final of the 50 breaststroke, Hall swam to 11th overall with a time of 30:20, while Bella Barragate was 14th in 30:64.
  • Fayanne Smith-Salzberg led the way for the Panthers in the 200 individual medley (IM), placing 12th in 2:08.56. Hannah Baumgartner was one spot behind, touching the wall just 0.11 seconds after her teammate. 
  • The 200 free relay squad of Avery Maxwell, Baumgartner, Chloe Bautista and Hay finished seventh with a time of 1:36.17. 
NOTES
  • During today's action, numerous Panthers posted individual season-best times. 
  • Quinci Wheeler of the Jumbos set a NESCAC and pool record during the 50 breaststroke, touching the wall in 28:47.
  • In the 400 medley relay, the Ephs squad also posted a conference and pool record, completing the event in 3:39.04.
  • Maeve Kelley of Amherst set a Natatorium record in the 500 free (4:51.48), while Bowdoin's Ella Martin (50 backstroke - 25.35), Williams' Sophia Verkleeren (200 IM - 1:59.48) and Amherst's Lucy Smith (50 free - 23.26) also set pool bests.
  • The Ephs' 200 free relay team also secured a Natatorium record, touching the wall in 1:33.27.
Middlebury returns to the Natatorium on Saturday for the third day of the NESCAC Championships. Preliminaries will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by diving at 2:00 p.m.
