Trio Of Podium Finishes Highlight Middlebury Efforts On Day One Of Williams Carnival

Alexandra Cossette finished 20th in Friday's giant slalom.
Shea Brams won Friday's 10K classic individual start, while Bradshaw Underhill and Mika-Anne Reha each finished on the podium in the giant slalom (GS) to lead the Middlebury ski teams on the first day of the Williams Carnival. Dartmouth leads the way with 425 points, while the University of Vermont is second (406.5 points) and the Panthers round out the top-three teams (381 points) after one day of action.
 
NORDIC HIGHLIGHTS
  • Brams led wire-to-wire in the 10K classic race to help the Panther women finish third with 104 points. She posted the fastest split at the 3.75K checkpoint by nearly 17 seconds and crossed the line with a winning time of 36:09.3, better than the next competitor by nearly 49 seconds. 
  • Maggie Wagner was Middlebury's next finisher, posting a 12th-place effort of 37:42.4.
  • Sofia Scirica rounded out the scorers for the Panthers with a 15th-place time of 38:02.1.
  • The Panther men recorded a trio of top-10 finishes to secure second place (105 points). Leading the way was Logan Moore who just missed the podium with a fourth-place showing, crossing the finish line in 32:16.4.
  • Jack Christner was next for Middlebury with an eighth-place finish (32:28.6), while Peter Warner placed ninth with a time of 32:37.6. 
ALPINE HIGHLIGHTS
  • The women's team placed three racers in the top-25 spots to claim third in the GS event with 91 points.
  • Reha tallied her second podium of the season in third place, finishing her two runs down the mountain in 1:37.76, just 0.36 seconds behind the winner.
  • Alexandra Cossette secured the 20th spot on the leaderboard, crossing the finish line with a combined time of 1:39.39. 
  • Nina Reichhelm rounded out the scorers with a 23rd-place effort (1:39.56).
  • On the men's side, Underhill led the way for the Panthers, finishing as the runner-up with a combined time of 1:34.64. 
  • Axel Bailey (21st) and Nicholas Unkovskoy (28th) also scored points for Middlebury and were separated by 0.91 seconds, with their two trips down the mountain totaling 1:36.53 and 1:37.44, respectively. 
NOTES
  • The event win is Brams second straight and her third in the last five races. She has also posted a top-10 finish in eight of the nine events this carnival season, highlighted by those three victories.
  • Underhill's podium finish was his second this winter, while Cosette's top-20 showing was her second.
  • Christner tallied his fourth-consecutive top-10 effort and the seventh of the season.
  • In his five races that he has competed, Moore has four top-five finishes. The fourth-place finish matches his season-best effort in the Colby Carnival
The Panthers return to Prospect Mountain (nordic) and Jiminy Peak Mountain (alpine) on Saturday to conclude the Williams Carnival.
