#18 Men’s Squash To Compete In The Hoehn Cup At CSA Championship

The Panthers are set to compete in the Hoehn Cup at the CSA Championships this weekend.
The 18-ranked Middlebury men's squash team has earned the sixth seed in the Hoehn Cup (B draw) at the upcoming CSA Championship and will face #15/fifth-seeded University of Rochester on Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the quarterfinal round. The three-day event will take place at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia. 
 
ABOUT MIDDLEBURY
  • Middlebury enters the weekend with a 10-7 overall record, including five triumphs over nationally ranked teams. 
  • The Panthers are making their 16th appearance at the championships and secured a spot in the Hoehn Cup for the fourth time and first since the 2016 season.
  • Middlebury is looking to win its first Hoehn Cup title, with its best-ever finishes coming in 2011 and 2012 when the squad earned 14th place.
  • During last year's CSA Championships, the Panthers placed fifth in the Summers Cup bracket.
PANTHERS TO WATCH
  • Nathan Feinstein has played 15 matches at #1 for Middlebury after joining up with the squad midway through the year. 
  • Caleb Boateng has also featured throughout the top-three spots and has claimed six wins this season. 
  • Solidifying the middle of the ladder are PK Keller and Kian Kardestuncer. Keller owns a 10-6 record and has recorded a team-high 42 career matches. Kardestuncer (11-5) has dominated in the fifth slot, holding an 8-3 mark, while also going 3-1 at #4.
  • Theo Kogan (10-7) has played primarily in the fourth spot, where he has produced seven victories. 
  • In their initial seasons in the navy and white, Gabe Thin and David Zhao have each tallied double-digit wins. Thin has registered 11 triumphs, including six at #7, while Zhao picked up 10 victories with six coming in the eighth slot. 
  • Charlie Clifford boasts an impressive 11-3 overall record this winter. He is 7-3 at #9 and undefeated (3-0) in the eighth slot. 
ABOUT ROCHESTER
  • Rochester enters the Hoehn Cup with a 7-3 overall record and closed the season by winning its last five matches. 
  • The Yellowjackets recently claimed the Liberty League Title, downing #23 St. Lawrence 7-2 in the championship match.
  • During last season's CSA Championship, Rochester made an appearance in the Hoehn Cup, finishing seventh. The previous year, the Yellowjackets reached the final before falling to Cornell. 
YELLOWJACKETS TO WATCH
  • Yash Fadte has held down the top spot in the lineup this winter. They have played all 10 matches at #1 and boast an impressive 8-2 record. 
  • In the second slot, Abdelrahman Lasheen and Luis Moncada have both split time. The pair are undefeated at #2, with Lasheen holding a 5-0 mark and Moncada claiming four victories.
  • At #3, Omar Zakaria is 8-1 this season and is currently riding a five match winning streak. 
  • In the middle of the ladder, Jake Koeppel (6-3), Van Inman-Benavente (4-5) and Tom Whiteley (6-4) have all had success. Koeppel is unbeaten at #5, sitting at 4-0, while Inman-Benavente has claimed three wins at #6. Whiteley has played matches throughout the ladder, but owns a 5-1 record in the sixth and seventh slots.
  • Arnav Mandhana has won his last two matches and is 6-3 on the year, playing in the bottom three spots. 
  • Emilio Carrillo has owned the ninth slot, winning all four of his matches there this season. 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Middlebury and Rochester meet for just the third time and first time since the 2013-14 season.
  • The Yellowjackets have won both of the previous two contests.
  • The two teams have never met in postseason play.
ABOUT THE BRACKET
  • The Hoehn Cup is the "B" bracket of the CSA championship, featuring teams that are nationally ranked #13 through #20.
  • The bracket features many familiar opponents for Middlebury. The Panthers have faced five of the teams in the draw including three NESCAC foes.
  • The other teams competing for the Hoehn Cup crown are #13 Williams, #14 Colby, #16 Amherst, #17 Franklin & Marshall, #19 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and #20 Chatham.
  • Middlebury defeated the Diplomats by a 6-3 scoreline earlier this season.
