Middlebury Competes At Pair Of Meets On Saturday

Tony Wang earned runner-up honors in the long jump.
The men's track and field team had Panthers competing at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational, as well as its own Middlebury Field & Track Meet this weekend. The BU meet featured professional runners, in addition to competition from all three NCAA divisions. 
 
VALENTINE INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS MIDDLEBURY FIELD & TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers took the top-two spots in the pole vault. Henry Ericson won the event with a height of 4.40m, while Joel Kofman was second (4.25m). 
  • Dave Filias claimed the crown in the weight throw with a toss of 16.59m, with Samuel Maxwell finishing in third place (15.10m). 
  • Breaking the tape in the 5,000 was Alec Gironda, clocking in at 15:03.35. 
  • In the 60 hurdles, Jefferson Hill led the way with a time of 8.52 seconds, while Caleb Smith was third (8.97). 
  • Smith also placed third in the 60 dash with a clocking of 7.22 seconds.
  • In the long jump, Tony Wang earned runner-up laurels with a leap of 6.20m.
  • Middlebury took the top-three spots in the 3,000 with Benjamin Hughes leading the way with a time of 8:39.75. Shef West was next (8:44.85), while Peter Burke placed third (8:55.77). 
  • Rounding out the third-place finishers was Sam Opawuyi in the triple jump, hitting the sand at 13.31m. 
Middlebury is idle until February 23 when selected members of the team compete in the three-day Division III Indoor New England Championships at THE Track at New Balance.
