Men’s Swimming & Diving Falls To Connecticut College In Season Opener

Samuel Hughes was a two-time winner on Saturday in the backstroke events.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team fell 174-122 to Connecticut College on Saturday in its season-opening meet. The Panthers tallied four individual event victories during the event.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Samuel Hughes was a two-time winner in the backstroke events. He led the field to the wall in the 100-yard back with a time of 52.05 seconds, while taking home the 200 title in 1:56.29.
  • Andrew Dou won the 50 freestyle with a clocking of 22.03 seconds.
  • Middlebury recorded a pair of runner-up efforts in the relays. The 200 medley team of Jack Undercofler, John Masiello, Dou and Matthew Hensel touched the wall with a time of 1:35.07. In the meet's final event, the 200 free relay consisting of Matthew Hensel, Prin Chantarangkul, Dou and Hughes was second in 1:25.83.
  • James Thomas tallied two second-place finishes in the breaststroke events, posting times of 59.18 seconds in the 100 and 2:12.86 during the 200.
  • Additional runner-up times came from Pierce Bigelow in the 1,000 freestyle (10:04.46), Luke McNamara during the 200 butterfly (1:57.07), Chantarangkul in the 100 free (48.58) and Stefanos Salas in the 200 individual medley (1:59.18).
  • On the diving boards, Owen White claimed the 3-meter title scoring 240.90 points, while he was second off the 1-meter board (236.70 points).
The Panthers return to action on Sunday when they travel to #23 Amherst for a 12:00 p.m. start.
