#19 Women’s Cross Country Finishes Fifth In Tight Regional Race

Middlebury's top four finishers at the Mideast Regionals.
The 19th-ranked Middlebury women's cross country team finished in fifth place at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship. Williams, ranked sixth in the country, ran away with the title accumulating just 59 points, followed by #27 Renesslaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and #13 Amherst with 110 points. Vassar (#26) finished fourth (111 points), while the Panthers closed the top-five with 112.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Pacing Middlebury in a tight front-runner group of three was Audrey MacLean. The sophomore finished in third place with a clocking of 20:58.60, just 11 seconds off the winner.
  • Bea Parr recorded a time of 21:54.90 which was good for 14th, while Victoria Fawcett cracked the top-30 spots (29th) in 22:24.50.
  • Three spots behind Fawcett was Kate Ratcliffe, crossing the finish line in 22:32.50.
  • Rounding out the point-getters was MK Cestaro in 37th (22:39.20) and Shea Fajen in 41st (22:44.40).
  • Also competing for the Panthers was Violet Ross, placing 60th with a clocking of 23:05.70. 
NOTES
  • This marked the third-straight year that Middlebury placed in the top five as a squad.
  • Williams claimed the team title for the second straight season. 
The top team from each of the 10 regions automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship with 22 additional teams earning at-large bids. The first seven runners from each region who are not part of a qualifying team will be selected to participate for a total of 70 additional individuals. The entire field will be released by 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17 at ncaa.com.
