The Middlebury men's ice hockey team completed its weekend sweep on Saturday, topping Colby 3-1. The Panthers blanked Bowdoin 5-0 on Friday evening in Chip Kenyon '85 Arena for a 2-0 NESCAC start to the season.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Mules wasted little time out of the gates, scoring just 34 seconds into the first period when Will Molson wristed a shot from the edge of the left faceoff circle, curling the puck around the crossbar for the 1-0 edge.
- With 5:19 elapsed, Colby looked to double its advantage, but Reese Farrell's redirect on an initial shot from Ryan Moore sailed just wide of the right pipe.
- Middlebury knotted the contest at the 6:26 mark while short-handed. Wyatt Pastor snagged the puck in the defensive end and shoveled it up to Matt Myers. Skating two-on-one with Pastor, Myers faked to his left before sneaking the puck past netminder Adam Costely to make it 1-1.
- The Panthers capitalized on the power-play with 12:38 expired. Christian Wood sent the puck from behind the goal to Jackson Morehouse who was waiting on the doorstep, one-timing his bid into the net for the 2-1 edge.
- With 7:42 elapsed in the middle frame, Reese had a good opportunity to tie the game with an extra skater, but his bid from the right dot skidded just wide of the pipe.
- Middlebury extended its advantage to 3-1 at the 16:11 mark. Revy Mack gathered the puck at center ice and sent a pass to Jack Silverman, who was barreling into the offensive zone with a head of steam. Silverman made no mistake, finding the back of the goal to put the Panthers ahead by two.
- With just under three minutes remaining, Dan Juzych and Ben Morgan had a nice give-and-go, but Juzych's bid was thwarted by Andrew Heinze to keep the two-goal cushion heading into the final stanza.
- The third period was riddled with penalties for both squads, as each team had a pair of power-play opportunities.
- The best chance for Colby to cut the deficit down came midway through the stanza, but Heinze made a beautiful sprawling save on a rebound attempt from Jayden Grier to preserve the 3-1 victory for Middlebury.
NOTES
- Heinze had a career-high 39 stops to pick up his second win in as many games.
- The Panthers and the Mules played for the 90th time as Middlebury claimed its 60th triumph in the series.
The Panthers hit the road next weekend, traveling to Tufts on Friday night and Connecticut College on Saturday.
