Second-Half Goals Lead #4 Men’s Soccer Past Bridgewater State

The #4 Middlebury men's soccer team scored twice in the second half to earn a 2-0 victory over Bridgewater State on Tuesday afternoon. 

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers controlled momentum out of the gate, securing three corner kicks in the first six minutes of action but could not get anything on net.   
  • Middlebury had a chance with 28:42 elapsed in the first half. Antonio Cosentino settled the ball with his chest and flicked a pass towards the top of the box. Colin Dugan aimed and fired towards the net, but Hector Bucio blocked the attempt out of harm's way.
  • The Bears looked to get on the board in the 32nd minute off a shot from Nicholas Ribeiro, but William O'Brien blocked his attempt to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Panthers had a strong attempt to get on the board off of a header by Luke Madden with 52:26 elapsed, but Bridgewater State goalie Matheus Rodrigues thwarted the shot.
  • Middlebury had a golden opportunity with 56:08 expired. Kyle Nilsson raced down the pitch and slid a pass over to Keagan Harder. Harder fired over to Gavin Randolph, who one timed the ball into the goal to give Middlebury a 1-0 lead. 
  • Ribeiro looked to even the score for Bridgewater State at 66:40 when Panthers goalie Joey Waterman smothered his shot to keep the Bears off the scoreboard 
  • Middlebury doubled its lead in the 73rd minute when Daniel Kaye was tripped up by a Bears defender inside the box. Dugan stepped up and fired the penalty shot past the fingers of Rodrigues. 
  • With 88:46 expired, Ribeiro produced a shot for Bridgewater State, but Waterman punched the ball over the crossbar to secure the shutout. 
NOTES
  • Randolph registered his team-leading fifth goal of the season while Dugan registered his fourth tally in Tuesday's triumph.
  • Nilsson handed out his 14th helper in a Panther uniform and Harder secured his first career assist.
  • Waterman recorded his sixth career shutout.
  • The programs faced off for the first time.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host Colby at 12:00 p.m.
