#15 Women’s Cross Country Garners Seventh Place In Strong Field At Paul Short

Bea Parr placed 13th overall.
The 15th-ranked Middlebury women's cross country team finished in seventh place out of 46 teams at the Paul Short Run. The Panther's varsity squad tallied 243 points in the White Race, with a field featuring several top-25 nationally-ranked programs. Claiming the crown was #11 Amherst with 135 points, while #7 Emory (152 points) and #3 New York University (186 points) completed the podium.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • It was a battle down the straightaway to the finish line between a pair of sophomores, as Audrey MacLean and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's (RPI) Jules Bleskoski raced for the top spot. MacLean placed second overall out of 375 racers, clocking in with a personal-best time of 20:42.8. Bleskoski's winning time was just 5.7 seconds faster.
  • Next for Middlebury was Bea Parr, finishing in 13th place with a clocking of 21:28.0. The Panther, along with MacLean, were among just three NESCAC competitors to place in the top-20 spots in the race.
  • Moving up 44 spots over the final mile was Shea Fajen, clocking in at 22:20.0, just cracking the top 50 in 47th.
  • MK Cestaro also broke the 23rd-minute barrier, posting a time of 22:37.8, which was good for 72nd place.
  • Rounding out the scorers for the Panthers was Victoria Fawcett, clocking in at 23:00.2. 
  • Caroline VanSchaick, Violet Ross, Morgane Orcutt, Naomi Atwood and Amelia Gray all competed in the race and placed within the top-200 spots. 
NOTES
  • Several Panthers competed in the open race to start the day, featuring all divisons with no team scoring. Leading the way for the group was Kate Ratcliffe, finishing in 59th place out of 488 racers with a time of 22:52.8.
Middlebury is idle for two weeks until it heads to Connecticut College on Saturday, October 19.
