Middlebury Caps Fall at Boston University Invite

Noah Laber earned his 45th career singles victory for the Panthers.

The fifth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team finished its fall season at the Boston University (BU) Invite. The Panthers matched up against two Division I programs in the Terriers and Bryant.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Middlebury put together a strong output in singles with an 11-5 mark. Nikky Kondamuri, Reif Larsen and Thehan Wijemanne each went 2-0 via straight-set triumphs.  
  • Sidney Huet also went unbeaten, including a come-from-behind win to defeat Bryant's Marcus Macaulay in three sets (4-6, 7-5, 10-5).
  • Neel Epstein, Noah Laber and Noah Lewis each picked up a victory in singles.
  • The Panthers excelled in doubles action by going 7-1 over the two-day event.
  • Hugh Hentschel and Laber were one of three duos to go undefeated, knocking off Bryant's Jean-Christopher Baril and Marcus Macaulay (6-2) and toughing out a 7-6 (7-3) triumph against the BU tandem of Jakob Esterowitz and Jonah Dickson.
  • Lewis and Kondamuri tallied their fourth win as a pair this fall by defeating the Terrier pairing of Jakob Esterowitz and Cohen (BU) (7-6 (7-4)) and Bulldog duo Manveer Boparai and Andrew Kelley of Bryant (6-4).

NOTES

  • Hentschel and Laber pushed their winning streak to five consecutive decisions as a pair.
  • Laber earned his 45th career victory in singles by defeating BU's Otakar Ungerman in a three-set thriller (6-4, 7-6 (7-3)).
  • Middlebury caps its fall campaign with 46 singles victories and 19 doubles triumphs.

The Panthers are off until their spring season begins in March.
