#3 Men’s Soccer Earns Hard-Fought Tie With #2 Tufts

The #3 Middlebury men's soccer team battled for 90 minutes on Saturday against #2 Tufts, but neither side found the back of the net as the game ended in a scoreless draw. 

HIGHLIGHTS
  • With 15:27 expired in the first half, Colin Dugan sent a shot toward the net, but Jumbos goalie Nikola Antic punched it away. 
  • The Panthers looked to get on the board again at the 18:39 mark when Dugan had an attempt from outside the box, but his bid was thwarted by Antic.
  • Tufts produced a chance with 29:41 elapsed. Henry Perkins took a shot off of a misplayed ball on the line, but the Middlebury defense held strong and kept the game scoreless.
  • The Panthers gained momentum seconds later at the 30:27 mark. Kyle Nilsson sent a cross to Tyler Payne, but his bid was blocked by a Jumbo defender. 
  • Tufts fought back with 32:55 off the clock when Liam Gerken's sailing shot was caught by Middlebury goalie Joey Waterman
  • The Jumbos ignited early in the second half during the 47th minute. Mateo Bargagna looked to get on the board twice, but both of his attempts were denied by the Panthers.
  • Taylor Feinberg had a chance off with his header at 57:44, but Waterman punched the ball away. 
  • Ben Pensky had a chance on the goal line in the 71st minute, but Middlebury defender William O'Brien stopped his chance. 
  • The Panthers looked to get the advantage at the 55:11 mark when Malik Samms had his header stopped by Antic.
  • Tufts manufactured its final scoring chance with 79:55 expired, but Waterman smothered Daniel Yanez's soaring shot.
  • Antonio Cosentino attempted to score at the 81:30 mark, but Antic stopped his bid to end the game in a 0-0 tie. 

NOTES
  • Waterman recorded four saves for his eighth career shutout. 
  • The programs played for the 40th meeting in an all-time series that Middlebury holds a 19-13-8 advantage. 
The Panthers return to action Saturday when they travel to Bates at 2:00 p.m.
