#20 Men’s Squash Cruises Past #21 Navy

Charlie Clifford moved to 3-0 on the season with a victory today.
The 20th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team began the 2024 portion of its schedule by cruising to an 8-1 victory over #21 Navy in its home opener.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Charlie Clifford opened the match by easing to a 3-0 sweep (11-1, 11-3, 11-2) at the bottom of the ladder. 
  • Alex Stimpson doubled the lead with a 11-9, 11-6, 11-6 victory at #8 before Theo Kogan held off his opponent at #3 (12-10, 7-11, 11-5, 11-13, 11-5) to make it 3-0.
  • Gabe Thin dropped the first two games in the sixth slot but battled back, claiming the next three to earn the five-game triumph (10-12, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-5) and give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.
  • David Zhao clinched the match with a sweep at #7 (11-5, 11-4, 11-7).
  • In the fourth spot, Kian Kardestuncer cruised to a three-game win (11-9, 11-8, 11-4), before the Midshipmen earned their first point at #5 to make it 6-1.
  • At #2, Caleb Boateng rallied past his opponent in five games (8-11, 9-11, 12-10, 12-10, 11-6), while Nathan Feinstein claimed a three-game sweep (11-4, 11-8, 11-9) at the top of the ladder to secure the 8-1 victory. 
NOTES
  • Clifford, Stimpson, Kogan and Thin each moved to 3-0 on the season. 
  • The programs played for the 14th time with the Midshipmen owning an 8-6 advantage, but the Panthers have won the last four contests.
Middlebury returns to the Bostwick Family Squash Center tomorrow to face #22 Dickinson at 1:00 p.m.
