Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Trio Of Power-Play Goals Propel #6 Middlebury Past Connecticut College 4-2

The sixth-ranked Middlebury women's ice hockey team tallied a trio of power-play goals en route to a 4-2 victory over Connecticut College. With the win, the Panthers complete their second-straight NESCAC weekend sweep, and extend their conference unbeaten streak to seven.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Camels got on the board first with an extra skater at the 10:50 mark. An initial bid by Kylie McCarthy hit another Connecticut College player in front of the goal, and the rebound fell to Casey Chesner who one-timed it into the net for the 1-0 edge.
  • Middlebury looked to have scored with 2:40 remaining in the opening stanza during a power play, but Kate Flynn's tip-in that crossed the goal line was waved off by the officials.
  • The Panthers knotted the contest at 1-1 with 5:34 expired in the middle frame with an extra skater. Cat Appleyard's bid from between the circles was denied by goalie Devon Galizio, but Kylie Quinlan was on the left pipe to sweep in a backhanded effort to start the second-period scoring frenzy.
  • Middlebury took the lead for good at the 8:34 mark while on the power play. Callia Ferraris sent a shot whistling from the top of the left faceoff circle that Britt Nawrocki redirected into the goal for the 2-1 edge.
  • The Panthers tallied their third-straight marker with 13:18 elapsed. Nawrocki looked for her second goal, but her bid was thwarted by Galizio. Molly MacQueen was on hand to shovel in the rebound, making it 3-1.
  • The Camels wouldn't go away, cutting the deficit to one (3-2) just over two minutes later. Netminder Sophia Merageas stopped an initial shot by Serena Seiple, but Sydney Frank's collected the rebound and found nylon to keep the game close.
  • There were few quality chances for either team to score during the third period. Connecticut College pulled Galizio twice in the final 2:35 of action, but Raia Schluter secured the 4-2 win with an empty net tally from center ice with 34 ticks left on the clock.
NOTES
  • For the second time this season, Ferreris tallied a pair of assists.
  • Avery McInerny has recorded at least one point in seven of the last nine contests, including a helper in each contest against the Camels this weekend.
  • The victory marked the 45th for Middlebury over Connecticut College, improving to 45-5-4 all-time.
The Panthers travel to Wesleyan next weekend for a two-game series beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night.
