Men’s Swimming and Diving Splits Tri-Meet With #8 Williams and Hamilton

Andrew Dou claimed four top-three finishes at today's tri-meet.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team defeated Hamilton 161-135 and fell to eighth-ranked Williams 193-108 in Saturday afternoon's tri-meet.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Samuel Hughes was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.38, edging the runner-up by one-tenth of a second. Luke McNamara placed third in the event with a time of 54:14.
  • In the 200 freestyle, Riley Griffis finished second, touching the wall in 1:43.80.
  • The 50 backstroke saw the Panthers claim three of the top-four spots. Andrew Dou placed second with a clocking of 24:51, while Hughes (24.69) and Jack Undercofler (24.90) were third and fourth.
  • Off the diving board, Liam Smith was the runner-up in the three-meter event, accumulating a score of 243.25 points, while Owen White finished third with 230.25 points. White placed second on the one-meter (229.75 points), with Smith taking third place (194.00 points).
  • Paul Shen raced to a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (59.31) and 50 breaststroke (27.01), while Dou claimed third in the 50 butterfly (23.46).
  • Middlebury placed second in both relay events. The quartet of Hughes, Shen, Dou and Matthew Hensel finished as runners-up in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.46. Prin Chantarangkul, Rodin McKenna, Griffis, and Dou touched the wall second in the 200 free relay with a clocking of 1:26.54.
The Panthers will host the two-day Middlebury Invitational next weekend with action kicking off on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
