#15 Men’s Squash Drops Tightly-Contested Match to #19 MIT 5-4

PK Keller claimed a four-game victory at #6 during today's match.
The 15th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team battled back from a 3-1 deficit to even the match at 4-4 before #19 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) secured the final triumph of the day to win the match 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Engineers opened the contest with wins at #4 and #1 to take a 2-0 lead.
  • David Zhao trailed 2-1 in the seventh spot, but battled back to win the next two games by close scores 11-9 and 12-10, cutting the Panther deficit to 2-1.
  • MIT restored its two-game lead (3-1) with a sweep in the third slot.
  • After dropping the first game at #6, PK Keller rallied to win the next three (10-12, 11-6, 11-6, 11-7). 
  • Gabe Thin earned a 11-6, 11-2, 9-11, 11-8  at #7 to level the match at 3-3. 
  • The Engineers claimed a victory in the second slot, but Charlie Clifford answered with a sweep (11-6, 11-7, 11-7) at the bottom of the ladder.
  • The match came down to the middle of the ladder, where Kian Kardestuncer fell to his opponent in a close five-game battle (12-10, 7-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-7) that lasted one hour and 17 minutes.
NOTES
  • In the exhibition match, Will Quigley claimed a back-and-forth, five-game victory (8-11, 11-4, 11-8, 6-11, 4-11).
  • Zhao earned his 10th career win during the contest.
The Panthers are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Tufts for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
