#20 Women’s Swimming and Diving Slips Past #23 Bates 146-141

The Panthers honored the program's five seniors prior to this afternoon's meet.
The 20th-ranked Middlebury women's swimming and diving team slipped past #23 Bates 146-141 in a battle of two nationally-ranked programs. Before the meet, the Panthers honored seniors Annika Edwards, Louise Hay, Hailey Vandenbosch, Marian Zottola and Mia Zottola for their contributions in the navy and white.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Chloe Katz continued her phenomenal start to the season, cruising to a victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:49.96, which was nearly 27 seconds faster than the next finisher. 
  • In the 200 butterfly, Evelyn Buetow secured the top spot, touching the wall in 2:10.31.
  • Louise Hay added a triumph in the 100 free with a clocking of 54.43, while Isabel Pentony secured a win in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.35.
  • Emma Hall was victorious during the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.23.
  • Off the diving boards, Pai Easterbrook placed first in both the one-meter (175.88) and three-meter (192.90) events. Amara Romero finished as the runner-up in the one-meter event with a score of 146.63.
  • Middlebury was second in both relay events. The quartet of Maddy Reid, Hall, Buetow and Hannah Baumgartner touched the wall in 1:50.37 in the 200 medley relay, while Avery Maxwell, Baumgartner, Pentony and Hay were the runners-up in the 200 free relay (1:38.86).
  • Hay (200 free), Fayanne Smith-Salzberg (100 breaststroke), Pentony (100 back) and Katz (500 free and 400 individual medley) all recorded second-place showings.
NOTES
  • Katz secured her 10th individual victory of the season during the meet.
The Panthers return to the pool with an away meet at Union (N.Y.) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
