The 20th-ranked Middlebury women's swimming and diving team opened its final home dual meet weekend of the season, dropping a 161-138 decision on Saturday to Colby. The Panthers earned five event victories on the afternoon.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Chloe Katz continued her solid start to the season, picking up victories in both the 200-yard freestyle and 1,000 free events. She touched the wall ahead of the next competitor by more than 27 seconds in the 1,000 with a triumphant time of 10:38.15.
- Middlebury claimed the top-four spots in the 200 free, with Katz posting a victorious time of 1:56.71. Louise Hay was right behind in second place (1:57.06).
- Another win came from Chloe Bautista in the 100 butterfly, becoming the lone swimmer to go sub-59 seconds (58.99).
- Louise Hay touched the wall first in the 500 free (5:14.50), while Molly Nordquist was second (5:21.31). Hay's triumph in the event marks the fourth time that a Panther has won the event in as many meets this season.
- Evelyn Buetow won the 50 fly in 26.64, just ahead of teammate Asa Stone with a runner-up time of 27.21.
- Emma Hall tallied a pair of second-place showings in the breaststroke events, clocking in at 31.72 in the 50 and 1:07.52 during the 100.
- Other strong runner-up individual efforts were recorded by Maddy Reid during the 50 backstroke (27.95), Avery Maxwell in the 50 free (25.09) and Hannah Baumgartner during the 100 individual medley (1:02.24).
- Middlebury tallied a pair of second-place times in the relay events. The 200 medley quartet of Reid, Hall, Bautista and Baumgartner swam to a time of 1:50.07. In the final event of the meet, the 200 free relay team of Maxwell, Hay, Baumgartner and Kate Wohl recorded a clocking of 1:40.43.
NOTES
- Katz has claimed the top spot in the 1,000 in each of her three appearances in the event. She has nine individual wins and one relay victory during the campaign thus far.
The Panthers conclude their homestand on Sunday against #23 Bates at 11:00 a.m. Before the meet, the program will honor its five seniors on Senior Day.
