#16 Women’s Squash Posts Fifth-Straight Win, Cruises Past #19 Bates 8-1

Izzy Ronda clinched the match for Middlebury with a five-game win at #2.
The #16 Middlebury women's squash team claimed its fifth-consecutive victory, easing past #19 Bates by an 8-1 score on Saturday. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Trailing 1-0, the Panthers leveled the match when Mariana Reedich swept her opponent at #7 (11-2, 11-1, 11-3).
  • Middlebury took the lead for good when Eva Finney outlasted her opponent in the middle spot of the ladder (11-4, 9-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-6).
  • The Panthers increased their lead to 4-1 with sweeps by Clementine Campbell at #9 (11-1, 11-9, 11-6) and Abby Holding in the fourth slot (11-5, 11-9, 11-5).
  • Izzy Ronda went the distance with her opponent, clinching the match at #2 with an 11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 6-11, 12-10 triumph at #2 for a 5-1 edge.
  • The last trio of points tallied by the Panthers came from Madeline Schwarz at #8 (11-1, 11-9, 11-6), Maya Bardorf in the sixth slot (11-5, 11-5, 11-5) and Margaux Comai at #3 (11-4, 11-7, 11-4) for the final 8-1 score.
NOTES
  • Holding's victory in the fourth spot was the 20th of her career, while Ronda posted her 15th career win.
  • Reedich and M. Schwarz continue their strong starts to their careers, both remaining unbeaten this season with 8-0 records.
  • The programs played for the 52nd time with Middlebury claiming wins in 36 of the matches. The Panthers have won eight of the last 10 meetings between the sides.
Middlebury is back in action on Sunday when it wraps up the home weekend with an 11:00 a.m. contest against #18 Bowdoin.
