Men’s Swimming and Diving Wins Seven Events In Dual Meet Against Colby

Liam Smith won the three-meter diving event during today's meet.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team dropped a tightly-contested meet to Colby by a 155.5-143.5 scoreline on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers won seven events during the dual meet.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Riley Griffis scored two victories during the afternoon, claiming the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.00) and the 200 free (1:41.81).
  • Luke McNamara continued his strong season with a victory in the 1,000 freestyle, touching the wall in 9:58.84. 
  • In the 50 breaststroke, Paul Shen won the event with a time of 27.13, while Christopher Pedersen finished second, stopping the clock at 27.45. 
  • Shen secured his second victory of the day in the 100 breast with a time of 59.06.
  • Samuel Hughes was first to touch the wall in the 50 free with a time of 21.74. Pedersen was just behind him, finishing as the runner-up (22.14).
  • Off the diving board, Liam Smith won the three-meter event with 218.78 points.
  • Middlebury earned second-place finishes in both relay events. The 200 medley quartet of Hughes, Griffis, Shen and Jason Chiappinelli swam to a time of 1:34.39. In the 200 free relay, Chiappinelli, Griffis, Pedersen and Andrew Dou touched the wall in 1:26.15 to claim the runner-up spot.
  • Other runner-up efforts included Dou (50 and 100 butterfly), Pierce Bigelow (1,000 free), Chiappinelli (100 free) and Matthew Hensel (100 individual medley). 
The Panthers close out the weekend with a senior day meet against Bates on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
