Delman & Raman Qualify For ITA Cup With Runner-Up Doubles Finish At Regionals

Amy Delman and Sahana Raman of the #4 Middlebury women's tennis team finished in second place at the ITA Regional Doubles competition. The pair earned an automatic bid to the ITA Cup that will take place October 12-16 in Rome, Georgia. 
 
DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS
  • Both doubles pairs competing in the round of 64 came away with victories. The duo of Anna Lardner and Sami Remis topped Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) pair Alaina Kolli and Alicen Liu 8-7(4) in tiebreaker fashion, while Ananya Annapantula and Nina Farhat earned an 8-4 win over Williams tandem Ahn Lin and Julia Zhang. 
  • Annapantula and Farhat claimed a tight 8-7(4) triumph in the next round and topped Wesleyan's Sarah Youngberg and Leila Epstein 8-6 in the quarterfinals to set up an all-Middlebury semifinal.
  • Delman and Raman earned a bye for the first round and edged Amherst duo Lily Dounchis and Emily Sivarak 8-6 in the round of 32. The pair claimed 8-3 and 8-5 triumphs on Saturday to advance to the all-Panther semifinal matchup.
  • On Sunday, Delman and Raman topped Annapantula and Farhat 8-3 to move on to the finals. In the championship, the pair fell to Babson's Matia Christiani and Chaniel Soffer.
SINGLES "A" DRAW HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury's Raman was dominant throughout the tournament earning four consecutive straight-set victories, before falling in the semifinals shortly after competing in the doubles final.
  • Lardner earned a straight-set triumph (6-3, 6-0) over Tufts' Sophie Wax in the round of 64, before edging Colby's Sam Riordan (6-2, 6-7(5), 10-8). Lardner bowed out in the quarterfinals against Shepherd Johnson of MIT.  
SINGLES "B" DRAW HIGHLIGHTS
  • Remis earned an 8-3 victory over Colby's Maddie Omicioli in the round of 32, before edging Kamila Stasiowska of Babson 8-6. Due to weekend rain, and matches moving inside, the B draw was canceled after the round of 16.
  • In the round of 32, Charlotte McCann swept Trinity's Baker 8-0.
  • Annapantula topped Emilee Pak of Wellesley 8-4 in a play-in game on Friday morning to earn her first collegiate victory.
The Panthers head to Bowdoin next weekend for the Polar Bear Invitational, while Delman and Raman will travel to Georgia.
