The Middlebury women's soccer team came up short against Bowdoin, falling 2-1 in a tightly-contested conference game. The Panthers struck first, but the Polar Bears scored a pair of goals late in the second half to earn three points in the NESCAC standings.
HIGHLIGHTS
- With just over 25 minutes expired in the contest, Middlebury took a 1-0 edge when Sophia Cole rifled the ball into the top right corner.
- Less than a minute later, Carolyn Days threatened to give the Panthers a two-goal advantage, but her attempt from the right side sailed just above the crossbar.
- Bowdoin looked for the equalizer during the 64th minute, but Mary Rainey's bid from the right side grazed the crossbar and careened out of bounds.
- The Polar Bears leveled the contest with 72:52 elapsed when Mia Williams slotted her shot into the lower right corner to deadlock the score at 1-1.
- Bowdoin tallied the game-winning goal with 4:02 left to play as Samaya Bernardo snuck her shot through traffic and into the bottom right 90.
- Cole had a chance to tie the game with 1:17 remaining, but her shot was corralled by goalie Charlotte Iannona to preserve the 2-1 Polar Bear victory.
