Kenary Earns NEFW Gold Helmet Award & Named NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week

Tomas Kenary earned two awards for his opening-week performance.
Middlebury football defensive lineman Tomás Kenary received the New England Football Writers Gold Helmet Award and was named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week for his standout performance against Amherst.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Kenary helped the Panthers hold the Mammoths scoreless for the opening three quarters en route to a 21-7 season opening triumph.
  • The senior led all players with 4.5 sacks for a loss of 44 yards, including two sacks just outside of the red zone which resulted in Amherst turning the ball over on downs.
  • Kenary totalled seven tackles (four solo) as well as an interception during the victory.
  • With 4.5 sacks on Saturday, he moved into third in the Middlebury record books with 17.5 for his career. 
  • Kenary was also a major contributor to the Panthers setting a school-record for most sacks in a single game with nine.



Kenary and Middlebury will be back in action on Saturday, September 23, when they travel to Connecticut to face Wesleyan at 1:00 p.m.
