Tir Claims Medalist Honors As Women’s Golf Wins Hamilton Fall Invitational

The Panthers claimed the Hamilton Fall Invitational with a two-day score of 615.

The Middlebury women's golf team won the team title at the season-opening Hamilton Fall Invitational. The Panthers fired a two-day winning total of 615 (310-305). Audrey Tir earned medalist honors with a combined score of 147 (74-73).

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tir finished one-over-par for the tournament and held a two-shot lead at the conclusion of the event. The medalist accolades were the first of Tir's career. 
  • Morgan Lee and Jacqueline Slinkard each finished in a tie for fourth place with two-day scores of 155. Lee fired a 77 in her first round and followed it up with a 78 on the final day. Slinkard tallied a 76 on Sunday, improving on her opening-round score by three strokes. 
  • Maria Barr was the Panthers' fourth finisher. Barr placed 18th with a two-day score of 164 (80-84).
  • Mia Politano rounded out the scorers for Middlebury. She bettered her opening-round score by 17 strokes on Sunday to tie for 26th.
NOTES
  • The team victory was the first for Panther head coach Tim Walko.
  • Middlebury led all teams following the opening day with a score of 310 and bettered Saturday's score by five shots during Sunday's play. 
  • Sophia Hwang and Kaylynn Xia each competed individually, finishing in a tie for 14th and 16th, respectively. 

The Panthers return to action on September 16-17 when they host the annual George Phinney Classic.
