#5 Men’s Lacrosse Falls To #1 Tufts In NESCAC Championship

Box Score The #5/second-seeded Middlebury men's lacrosse team fell to #1/top-seeded Tufts 19-6 in the NESCAC Championship on Sunday. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Jumbos opened the game with three goals over the first 7:18 of action. Tommy Swank started the run with a tally on the fast break, before Jack Boyden and Jack Regnery each scored to make it 3-0.
  • Tufts continued the run with five more goals, increasing its advantage to 8-0 after one quarter of play.
  • The Jumbos picked up where they left off to begin the second quarter, scoring twice to take a double-digit (10-0) lead after 4:51. 
  • Middlebury got on the board at the 8:30 mark in the second quarter. Patrick Jamin received a pass from Russell Thorndike and ripped a shot past Jumbo goalie Connor Garzone and into the top left corner to make it 10-1.
  • Boyden bounced in a goal at the 5:51 mark, givingTufts an 11-1 advantage heading into the halftime break.
  • The Jumbos began the second half by rattling off five goals over an 8:42 span to increase their lead to 16-1.
  • The Panthers scored a marker on the player advantage to make it 16-2 with 4:53 left in the third quarter. Billy Curtis fired an underhanded shot that found the upper left corner of the net. 
  • Just under a minute later, William Ryan gathered a pass from Will Zink and slipped the ball into the goal from close range to make it 16-3.
  • At the 3:09 mark, Jack Sheehan beat Garzone with a jump shot from the right side that nestled into the bottom left corner to cut the deficit to 16-4.
  • Tufts closed the third stanza with a pair of goals to take an 18-4 lead into the final quarter of play, before opening the fourth quarter with a marker from Kurt Brunn to make it 19-4.
  • Tyler Forbes found nylon with another player-up goal with 8:53 remaining in the contest to close the gap to 19-5. 
  • With 3:34 left, Logan White tucked a turnaround shot inside the left post to bring the final score to 19-6.
NOTES
  • This was Middlebury's 12th appearance in the conference final.
  • Middlebury and Tufts have now met 10 times in the NESCAC Tournament.
  • The Panthers' only pair of losses this season have come at the hands of the Jumbos.
Middlebury will wait to learn if it has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced on Sunday night.
