Men’s Track and Field Competes at Division III New Englands

Ziggy Goddard placed second in the 3,000 steeplechase.
The Middlebury men's track and field team placed ninth at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield. #1 MIT won the meet with 143 points, while UMass Dartmouth (71)  and Bates (60) rounded out the top three. The top-eight finishers in each event receive All-New England honors.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Dave Filias earned his second-consecutive victory in the hammer throw with a toss of 58.80m.
  • Ziggy Goddard followed up his strong performance at the NESCAC Championship with a runner-up showing in the 3,000 steeplechase, stopping the clock in 9:19.53
  • Two Panthers finished in the top 10 in the 400 hurdles. Peter Hansen placed fourth with a clocking of 54.78, while Xander Swann was 10th with a time of 55.90.
  • Zach Utz was sixth in the 800 with a time of 1:53.94, while Lachlan Bishop stopped the clock in 1:55.06 to earn 10th place.
  • In the 100 meter dash, Richard Clark placed seventh, crossing the finish line in 10.79.
  • Joel Kofman cleared the bar at 4.29m to earn a tie for seventh in the pole vault.
  • Dan Urchuk finished sixth in the discus with a toss of 44.33m. Samuel Maxwell and Logan Cosgrove placed eighth and ninth with throws of 42.39m and 42.23m, respectively.
  • In the high jump, Tristan Joseph and Sam McGarrahan each cleared the bar at 1.91m to finish ninth and 10th. Joseph did it on his second jump, while McGarrahan completed it on his third try.
NOTES
  • The team has finished in the top-10 places at New Englands in six-consecutive years.
The Panthers will be back in action on Friday, May 12 when members of the team travel to Northeastern to take part in Open New England Regionals.
