Panthers End Season With 6-1 Loss To #4 Endicott In NCAA Regional

The Middlebury baseball team concluded its season on Saturday, falling by a 6-1 score to fourth-ranked Endicott in an NCAA Regional hosted by Bridgewater State.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Gulls took an early lead with three runs in the first inning on a Nicolas Notarangelo RBI double to right field and a pair of Panther miscues to make it 3-0.
  • Endicott added an unearned run in the third and a bunt single by TJ Liponis an inning later made it a 5-0 advantage.
  • The Panthers cut the deficit to 5-1 in the fifth. Beau Root led off with a triple to left field and scampered home on a single to left from Andrew Gough.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Endicott restored its five-run edge (6-1) when Danny MacDougall doubled down the left-field line and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by John Mulready.
  • Middlebury threatened in the seventh when Gough started the inning with a single to left and Lucas Flemming was hit by a pitch, but Gull pitcher Jordan Gottesman worked out of the jam to keep it a 6-1 contest.
  • Gottesman worked around leadoff hits in both the eighth and ninth innings for the final 6-1 score.
NOTES
  • Root's triple in the fifth inning gives him six for the season, moving him into the top spot in the program's single-season record book.
  • Kyle McCausland went 1-4 during Saturday's contest, giving him 98 hits for his career.
  • Spencer Dessart logged his first career complete game for Middlebury.
  • The 27 wins (27-13) for the Panthers this season are the second most in program history.
  • Today's meeting between Middlebury and Endicott was the first in the history of the two programs.
