Men’s Golf Pulls Away From the Field To Claim 10th NESCAC Championship

The Middlebury men’s golf team dominated the NESCAC Championships, winning by 15 strokes.
The Middlebury men's golf team had 20 birdies and posted a two-day score of 439 en route to a dominant 15-shot victory in the NESCAC Championship. The Panthers placed three players in the top-10 spots and earned their 10th conference crown and first since 2021. Amherst and Tufts each finished with a score of 454 with Amherst winning the tiebreaker to take second place. The second round was shortened to nine holes due to inclement weather.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Colin McCaigue and Hogan Beazley each finished in a tie for first place. Both players closed the championship weekend with a two-day score of 109. McCaigue ended the event with a 73-36, while Beazley fired a 72-37 to claim a share of medalist honors.
  • Next for Middlebury was Sean McGarrity who fired a two-day score of 111, including an opening round of 72 to finish in a tie for sixth place.
  • Finishing in a tie for 11th was Anthony King. He closed the championship with a 113 (72-41), highlighted by a one-over-par in the opening round of the event. 
  • Rounding out the scorers, Charlie Schulman had a strong final day of action. The first-year jumped 11 spots to finish just three shots behind King with a two-round score of 116 (78-38). 
NOTES
  • McCaigue's second-round 36 was the second-lowest round of the day.
  • Benjamin Boyd (Trinity) and Steven Chen (Amherst) also finished tied for first place with scores of 109. 
  • The Panthers have now placed in the top-three spots 19 times in the history of the conference tournament. 
Middlebury will await its NCAA Tournament fate when the field is announced later this week.
