Baseball Goes 1-1 In Twinbill With Bowdoin

The Middlebury baseball team split a pair of seven-inning contests against Bowdoin on Sunday evening. The Panthers earned a hard-fought 1-0 win in the opener before dropping the second game 4-0. Due to weather, the games were hosted by UMass Boston.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury scored the only run of the game in the top of the first inning. Jack Stolper led off the game with a base hit before stealing second and moving to third on a miscue by the Polar Bears. John Collins drove him home with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
  • From there, Panther starting pitcher Alex Price was dominant on the mound. The left-hander allowed one hit in the bottom of the first before retiring 11-consecutive batters and not giving up another hit until the final inning.
  • In total, Price logged his second complete game of the season, striking out 11 batters and allowing just two hits and a pair of walks.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Bowdoin opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Kevin Murray led off with a solo home run to give the Polar Bears a 1-0 edge.
  • Later in the inning, Gabe Peckler tripled and Lucas Tsai drove him home with an RBI single. Jack Olcott moved Tsai to second with a base hit and Liam Foley doubled to send him home and make the score 3-0.
  • Tsai gave Bowdoin a 4-0 edge in the sixth. Peckler smacked a double before Tsai picked up his second RBI of the day, singling to bring Peckler across the plate and extend the Polar Bears' lead.
NOTES
  • In game one, Price picked up his 14th career win, moving him to within one win of second place in the Middlebury record books.
  • The two teams met for the 36th and 37th times in the all-time series this weekend. Middlebury has won six of the last seven contests.
