Men’s Golf Prepares For NESCAC Championship at Bates

The Middlebury men’s golf team will head to Maine to take part in the 2023 NESCAC Championship this weekend.
The Middlebury men's golf team will head to Maine to take part in the 2023 NESCAC Championship this weekend. The two-day event will be hosted by Bates on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30 in Auburn, Maine at the Martindale Country Club.
 
ABOUT MIDDLEBURY
  • The Panthers are looking to win their 10th NESCAC title. Middlebury last claimed the conference crown in the spring of 2021.
  • Last season, Middlebury finished with a two-day score of 613 to take home third place at the conference championships. 
  • The Panthers have placed in the top-three 18 times in the history of the tournament. 
  • Middlebury capped the regular season with a runner-up finish at the Williams Invitational. The event was cut down to one day due to weather, as the Panthers competed against nine schools.
PANTHERS TO WATCH
  • Two-time All-NESCAC selection Hogan Beazley has been a key member for the Panthers this season. Beazley placed fifth at the Tim Brown Invitational that included a three-under-par 68 on the first day. 
  • Colin McCaigue was the NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2021. This season, the junior has finished in the top-10 places on three occasions, including a runner-up finish at the Ekwanok Sap Bucket Challenge in the fall.
  • Sean McGarrity was Middlebury's top finisher in the dual match against Hamilton, firing a 73. Earlier this year, McGarrity won the NEIGA Championship, finishing three-under-par with a two-day score of 141.  
  • Anthony King has been a mainstay in the Panther lineup this spring. The senior shot a 73 in the dual meet against Hamilton, before finishing in a tie for sixth at the Williams Spring Invitational.
  • Rounding out the Middlebury lineup is Charlie Schulman. The first year had his best performance of the season at the Williams Spring Invitational, where he finished tied for 11th shooting an opening-round score of 77.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
  • Last season, Hamilton claimed its fourth conference title, winning the NESCAC Championship with a two-day score of 597.
  • The Continentals have earned the most team victories this season, winning four events.
  • Williams leads the conference with 13 total NESCAC Championships. The Ephs' latest title came during the 2017 season.
  • Trinity and Hamilton are both receiving votes in the latest GCAA Division III Coaches Poll.
  • Last season, Jack Meehan of Tufts was the individual winner. Meehan returns to the conference championship where he finished with a two-day score of 143, including a second-round 68 in 2022.
