Panther Men Finish Third At Carla Coffey Invitational

Tristan Joseph finished second in the high jump on Saturday.
The Middlebury men's track and field team finished in third place at the Carla Coffey Invitational hosted by Smith. Tufts won the meet with 165 points, followed closely by Amherst with 153 points and Middlebury in third with 144.50 points. 
 
FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Several Panthers competed in field events on Friday evening, highlighted by a win from Dave Filias in the hammer. Filias posted a winning toss of 52.27 meters, claiming the title by more than four meters.
  • Logan Cosgrove also posted a top-three finish in the shot put (13.48m). 
SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury recorded three event victories throughout the day. Peter Hansen won the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.88.
  • A few events later, the 4x400m relay team of Hansen, Isaiah Izzo Lizardi, Colin Breen and Luke Hayes was the only quartet to break the 3:20 barrier with a winning time of 3:19.70.
  • Dan Urchuk recorded the third win of the day in the discus with a toss of 43.83m, while Samuel Maxwell earned a runner-up distance of 42.66m.
  • Other runner-up efforts came from Tristan Joseph in the high jump and Ziggy Goddard during the 3,000m steeplechase. Joseph cleared the bar at a height of 1.93m, while Goddard stopped the clock with a time of 9:27.09.
NOTES
  • Filias' winning toss in the hammer was a personal-best throw, while the distances posted by Urchuk and Maxwell in the discus were each the best of their respective careers.
  • Joseph's clearance was a personal-best height in the high jump, Cosgrove's effort in the shot put was a personal-best mark, while Goddard lowered his collegiate-best time in the 3,000m steeplechase by more than 16 seconds.
 The Panthers return home for the Middlebury Outdoor Invitational on Saturday, where the team will also honor its seniors.
